Manage a game server

Mods, files and backups live in the game panel.

29 Jul 2026 · 3 min read

Game servers at DeluxHost come with a dedicated game panel, built for the things you actually do every day: installing mods, editing configs, watching the console and taking backups. The cloud panel handles billing and the big picture, while the game panel is where you play admin.

Getting into the game panel

Open your game server from the dashboard. On the Overview tab you will find a button to open the game panel; you are signed in automatically, no second password needed. The game panel shows:

  • A live console where you can read logs and type server commands.
  • Start, restart and stop buttons for the game process.
  • Current player count, CPU and memory use.

The Controls card in the cloud panel still works too, but it restarts the whole service, while the game panel only restarts the game itself, which is faster.

Files and configs

The Files section is a full file manager in the browser. You can edit configs like server.properties directly, upload small files by dragging them in, and create or delete folders.

For larger uploads, such as modpacks or world saves, use SFTP. You will find the host, port and username on the game panel's Settings page:

sftp -P 2022 youruser.abcd1234@your-server-ip
put -r ./mods /mods

Tools like FileZilla or WinSCP work with the same details.

Installing mods and plugins

Most popular games have a built in installer for mods or plugins. For anything else, the usual flow is:

  1. Stop the server from the game panel.
  2. Upload the mod files into the correct folder (for example mods/ or plugins/).
  3. Start the server and watch the console for errors.
  4. If it crashes, remove the last mod you added and try again.

Tip: Add mods one or two at a time. When something breaks, you will know exactly which one caused it instead of hunting through fifty files.

Backups

The Backups section lets you create a snapshot of your server's files with one click. Good habits:

  • Take a backup before every update, new modpack or big config change.
  • Lock the backups you want to keep forever, so automatic rotation does not delete them.
  • Download important backups to your own computer from time to time.

Restoring replaces the current files with the backup, so stop the server first and make sure you pick the right date.

Scheduled tasks

Under Schedules you can automate routine work, such as a daily restart at 05:00, an automatic backup every night, or a broadcast message warning players before a restart. A simple daily restart often fixes slow memory leaks that build up in long running game servers.

When something goes wrong

If the server will not start, read the last lines in the console first: the error is almost always there. If players cannot connect but the server is running, check the Firewall page in the cloud panel to make sure the game port is allowed. Still stuck? Open a ticket from Support and paste the last 50 lines of the console.
