Upgrade your plan

Move to a bigger plan or add IPv4 addresses.

24 Jun 2026 · 3 min read

Your project grew and the server is starting to feel tight? Upgrading is quick, keeps all your data and IP addresses, and you only pay the difference for the rest of the current billing period. You can also add extra IPv4 addresses without changing plan at all.

Signs it is time to upgrade

Open your server and look at the Usage tab over the last week:

  • CPU regularly above 80% during your busy hours.
  • RAM always full, with the server starting to use swap.
  • Disk above 85%, leaving little room for logs, backups and updates.
  • Network close to your plan's port speed during peaks.

If only one resource is tight, check whether a different plan family fits better. A database heavy app may need more RAM, while a game server often benefits most from faster single core CPU.

Upgrading your plan

  1. Open the service and go to the Billing tab.
  2. Press Change plan.
  3. Pick the new plan. The panel shows the new resources and the prorated amount due today.
  4. Confirm and pay the invoice.

The server restarts once to apply the new CPU and RAM. Disk growth is applied at the same time; on Linux, most of our images extend the partition automatically on boot. If yours does not, you can do it by hand:

sudo growpart /dev/vda 1
sudo resize2fs /dev/vda1
df -h /

Tip: Schedule the upgrade for a quiet moment. The restart usually takes under a minute, but players or visitors connected at that time will notice.

Moving between product families

Upgrading within the same family (for example from one VPS plan to a bigger VPS plan) happens in place. Moving to a different family, like from VPS to VDS or to a dedicated server, means new hardware. In that case we create the new service, you migrate your data, and we cancel the old one with a prorated credit. Open a ticket from Support and we will help plan the move, including which location makes sense: Amsterdam, Frankfurt or Eygelshoven.

Adding IPv4 addresses

Need a second IP for a separate site, mail server or game instance? You can add one without changing plan:

  1. Go to the Network tab of your server.
  2. Press Add IPv4 address.
  3. Confirm the order. The new IP appears in the list once it is assigned.

The panel shows the configuration you need to add the IP on the server. On Ubuntu with netplan, it looks like this:

sudo nano /etc/netplan/50-cloud-init.yaml
sudo netplan apply
ip a

IPv4 addresses are limited, so additional ones may require a short justification, such as running separate SSL sites or isolated services. Every server already includes IPv6, which is free and plentiful.
